UK regulators of LIBOR have announced ending dates for “the world’s most important number”.  LIBOR is so well entrenched that its cessation requires rethinking the economics of lending and borrowing. Numerous proposed replacement rates, ranging from the Federal Reserve’s SOFR, to others that resemble LIBOR are creating uncertainty for the future of the $6 trillion commercial lending market. This discussion highlights the issues to be aware of, key management challenges, and the evolution of lending and hedging.
